Me: "Cheyenne Tower, twin Cessna 6821T with you, 5 miles to the north inbound for landing"
Tower: "Twin Cessna enter right base for runway 27, cleared to land"
Now How did i get to Cheyenne WY. Let me tell you a story.
So end of last week right before Christmas a student calls me up and asks me a favor. That is to take 3 Days off of work and go out to North Carolina and pick up a plane that his dad is buying for his training. I weighed the options and figured yeah why not, he would pay for airfare and lodging, shouldn't be to bad. Well day after Christmas, I meet the student at the international airport in Salt Lake City and off we went to Raleigh Durham airport. Monday we spent the night in a hotel, then Tuesday morning we met my students dad to head over and check the airplane out. After almost a full day of looking at logbooks for the plane and looking at the plane, I went out in the plane to get a feel for how it operates. By the time we finished that it was already dark so we opted to go stay in a hotel again till the next morning.
In the morning after a couple landings we decided to head off on our 1600 Mile adventure. The first leg went great, new scenery and new plane. We stopped in Huntingburg Indiana for fuel and food and we were off again. The second leg was a little longer then the first, just to test the plane. We landed in North Plat Nebraska around 7pm central, so it was dark. In case you were wondering Nebraska isn't a whole lot different from the air as the ground, boring. Again similar story food and fuel, then on our way again this time ending hopefully at Ogden UT. Unfortunately as we headed west, we received a report that an identical aircraft as the one we are in, picked up some moderate clear icing 150 miles in front of us. We started weighing the options considering that it is night, and that we had been flying the entire day. We decided to stop at Laramie, WY and proceeded to make preparations for landing when i noticed we started picking up a heavy wind from the west which was causing our ground speed to fall off drastically. As we watched it dwindle, we decided to just head south to Cheyenne which was only 15 miles away. Landed with the wind coming right down the runway without any problems. Well after a good nights sleep we wake up to winds in the 60 MPH range. As of now, still on the ground in Cheyenne waiting for the winds to calm down a little and we will be on our way again. Till next time, Cam is changing frequencies.
Good luck on getting home! Be safe.
